VEGETABLE GARDENS

Although permaculture gardens are usually primarily perennials, in the early years annual vegetables are often included in order to obtain yields while other plants establish themselves.

This is part of the succession of the garden as it grows and develops.

Each  of the four vegetable beds in the garden was designed to represent different permaculture techniques, and to suit the needs of the different plants. Although less complex than a Food Forest, diversity was incorporated into the vegetable beds with companion plants that perform ecosystem services that help the main crop, as well as being edible themselves.
