KALE BED

Diagrams represent original planting designs and may not be completely accurate, due to the evolving nature of the garden.
This bed comprises all the greens: kale, Good King Henry, and Perennial arugula, as well as some other companion plants and herbs such as Nasturtiums, Dill, Cilantro and Anise Hyssop. Instead of being split up and segregated, they are all mixed together in one large bed. ‘Keyholes’ spaced out along the border ensure everything is within reach from at least one point along the path. As well, the plants are organized with the tallest in the center and the shorter plants along the edges for easier access. Low sprawling plants like nasturtium and mint fill in the middle and act as groundcover. Perennial arugula was also selected to minimize input in later years.
